My scheduled daily backups have not been running - There are no users logged in to the system (Auto logout after 30 minutes) and the backups run late at night. I have tried recreating the tasks from scratch, but that did not make any difference. Today, I ran the backup and the hot backup manually and both completed successfully.
Any clues why? What else should I be looking for?

Is the Task scheduler still running on screen? Try setting the task scheduler for a few minutes and make sure it runs through.

Yes, the task scheduler is still running -- In fact, I have left myself logged on the machine so that it continues to run (I have to fix this one of these days...)

If you set the backup to run a few minutes out does the backup run?

I would try change the time of the backup, in case something else is running during that time and interfering with the backup. The task scheduler is not tolerant to any kind of unexpected event. I use it for running utilities. Once anything interferes with that process, the task scheduler is hung up and needs to be closed and reopened.
I automatically close and reopen the task scheduler whenever I come into the office.
